Only about twenty kilometers from Cacak is the town of Ostra, described in numerous books because it was at this point along the Ostrovka River that the inaccessible roads to the top of the nearby Serbian mountain were sheltered from the Turks.
Djuradj Brankovic also passed through this place in Sumadija, who, according to legend, hid boxes full of gold and silver in a cave in Ostrica, and among the valuable jewels was a crown that belonged to Emperor Dusan.
Cedomilj Mijatovic also wrote about this treasure in the novel “Rajko od Rasina” dating from 1892, and according to him, in the “mythical mountain full of caves, snakes and springs” there is a hidden treasure of Serbian medieval rulers. Since then, the search has not stopped as numerous travelers intentionally passed through the dense forest to enrich themselves, but this was not for anyone yet, so it stands to reason that the treasure is still there.
Neither the people of the town of Ostra nor themselves were immune to the idea of a possible fortune that could be near their home.
“When I was about 25 years old, I was curious and decided to explore the cave and see if that treasure really existed.” And secretly hoped, like everyone else, to find him. I entered the cave about 50 meters away, I no longer dared because the conditions were really harsh. At that time, I was only able to discover the ceramic layers, ”says a RINA resident.
This first attempt, he says, was the last, as he no longer dared to enter the cave on Mount Ostrici, which in the past was believed to be protected by snakes. So far, several deaths have been reported here, so he goes on to say that those who choose to follow are cursed.
“There is certainly something there. I have lived here for almost 80 years and I remember that a man and a woman of the Kings were killed when they came down from the cave, and they are not the only ones. I have never been very encouraged to go there, my life is more sweeter than any Nemanjic treasure, ”said an elderly resident of this mysterious town.
If you are not brave enough to head to the cave in search of silver and gold, this area should not be ignored, as the path, if not entirely to the treasure of Nemanjić, will lead you to the Byzantine fortification of Sokolice dating of the fifth century. The observation post and loophole were installed to observe the entire western Morava basin.
“The oldest remains can be found here from the Copper Age and from 2000 BC, and the earliest remnants of life have been identified here during the Bronze Age, making Sokolica one of the most interesting historical sites in this area, which may have exceptional tourism potential. ” said Delfina Rajic, director of the National Museum in Cacak.
The Sokolica Mountain Fortress was of great strategic importance throughout history, as it controlled important roads from Pomorje and Bosnia through the Čačak Basin to Šumadija.
