An Islamic center under construction, two Islamic communities in Serbia, and long-standing conflicts between them. The last culminated yesterday in Novi Pazar, when representatives of an Islamic community blocked the work where the other Islamic community recently started the construction of the Islamic center.

About twenty people. Metal grate. Road and access to the work of the Islamic Center in Novi Pazar blocked. The center is being built by the Islamic Community of Serbia, led by Sead Nasufović. The blockade was carried out by supporters of another religious organization: the Islamic Community of Serbia, which was previously headed by Muamer Zukorlic. At the center of the conflict is the ownership of the plot on which it is being built, and Zukorlic claims that those who are building are not legal.

“Although this right was recognized, they do not even have the necessary building permits, although that is not the most important thing at the moment. And the third but key thing is that they are next to the plot, I do not know how they obtained it in private and that is their fact, they tried to usurp part of the Islamic Community’s fabric and that is part of the dispute, ”said Zukorlic.

The disputed part of the road that was blocked yesterday is the part of the parcel that is privately owned by the Novi Pazar family, from which the Islamic Community they are building took over the land. However, even that family, as Reis Nasufović claims, does not know how a part of their plot is registered as part that belongs to a Muslim cemetery, so they started a lawsuit today.

“This road has existed for more than 50 years, these are private owners with whom we spoke before the construction of the Islamic Center, and who have all the documentation that they will present to the cadastre to return to their name,” he said on the Studio Live program reis ul ulema. Islamic communities in Serbia, “says Nasufović.

Internal conflicts have existed since 2007, when there was one split, and since when there have been two in Serbia. However, when the political situation changes at the local level, especially between the opposition party of Muamer Zukorlić and the ruling Rasim Ljajić party, problems of the Islamic community arise, is the opinion of Fahrudin Kladničanin of the academic initiative Forum

“What they are doing on social media, what their activists are doing is creating a very strange political atmosphere in which they accuse each other of being deeply immersed in corruption, crime and various other things that erode Serbian society,” Kladnicanin said.

The police announced that they found a large number of citizens in the place, who did not carry weapons, that the Novi Pazar prosecutor’s office was informed about the fact, which indicated that there were no elements of crime or lack.
