Belgrade – Serbia has thawed relations with the United States in the last four years, and that was influenced by the US president and his partner Riard Grenel, as well as the administration in Serbia.

Analysts, non-governmental organizations and the opposition did not influence this warming, the director of the Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies, Jelena Mili, evaluated today.
Mili told Prva Televizija that the Serbian government was the only one that could lay the foundations for improving Serbian-American relations. He noted that the government has succeeded in convincing the United States that there are small but very legitimate demands to resolve Kosovo’s status and that it is ready to become an important and valuable partner of the United States for these concessions.
He added that he hopes the new administration in the United States can assess what the United States should give up to Serbia and see how much benefit it could get from Serbia.
She assessed that Serbia must be careful that cooperation with China and Russia does not jeopardize its European path, adding that everything will continue to lose its meaning until the Kosovo issue is resolved in a fair and sustainable way.
“It cannot be overlooked that these two nuclear powers have not recognized Kosovo in the UN Security Council, and neither Germany nor the EU are in the Security Council,” he said.
He added that there are both Russian and Chinese interests that do not have to coincide with the interests of Serbia regarding the need for things in Kosovo to remain the same. “The EU shows that it wanted a lot and started a lot, that it would like to have a monopoly on the solution around Kosovo without instruments,” he said.
He emphasized that Serbia must consider these alternatives, and one of the keys is to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States. He added that Serbia should put pressure on the White House, the Upper and Lower Houses of Congress, the Pentagon and the US Department of the Treasury.
“The ball is more on the court in Belgrade, which should take a more proactive stance and offer certain concessions,” he said. Mill pointed out that Serbia should react to the inaccuracies that are being heard and explain that we have changed and progressed since the time of the 1990s, when we were invited in the most drastic ways.
“Yes, we have changed and progressed, convicted many and extradited many, and that is what Kosovo has done. In 2021, we have new geopolitical circumstances and new tools, and the conversation must take place in new circumstances. This is an issue. brand new, compared to 1999, “he said. He added that some persistently mention the genocide in Kosovo and that this is one of the inaccuracies that Serbia should react to.
“What genocide in Kosovo. There is no indictment, much less a verdict for the crime of genocide in Kosovo,” he said. He added that Serbia should use the arguments that it has handed over six active army and police generals, and two presidents. “It is not true that Serbia never intended, it is also destined for brutal cooperation with The Hague. And that must be said,” he said.
He also assessed that it was a direct insult when Eliot Engel said “if the UK committed crimes” and wondered who killed 2,000 Serbs in Kosovo. He also recalled that 750 people were killed in Serbia during the 1999 bombing, and that Serbia was bombed by 10,000 Albanian civilians, and he wonders where the scale is.
“Don’t make us stupid. That is why you cannot, because you have the desired result, so easily trample on the principles for which you acted, transitional justice and the fight against historical revisionism,” he said.
