A day of mourning is proclaimed after a particularly severe accident that results in the death, injury, or serious damage to the health of large numbers of people, or in the event of the death of a senior state official.

It can also be declared in the case of the death of a person who had high merits for the country, as well as on the occasion of a tragic event, when the Government considers it so, writes Mondo.

The decision on the proclamation and the duration of the day of mourning is made by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and the day of mourning lasts for the time determined by the decision on the proclamation and the duration of the day of mourning, but cannot last longer. three days.

Unless the decision determines otherwise, the day of mourning will begin at 0.00 hours on the day set for the day of mourning and will end at 24.00 on the day set for the last day of mourning.

The ways in which the day of mourning is marked are: lowering the flag at half mast (with adequate lighting at night), giving the mail a minute of silence and information and media memory.

The sanctions imposed for non-compliance with these measures can reach a figure of 50,000-200,000 if the legal entity does not display the flag of the Republic of Serbia at half-staff, that is, half-lance, on the day of mourning, with adequate lighting for the night.

In addition, a penalty of the same amount is prescribed if the legal entity refuses to allow employees to pay their respects to victims with a minute of silence.

The same fine applies to broadcasting and journalistic organizations, unless they disseminate the decision to declare a day of mourning or inform the public about remembrance meetings organized on the occasion of the day of mourning by the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia or the bodies designated by it.

Legal entities dedicated to catering, tourism and related activities that continue to broadcast folk and popular music during the day of mourning, that is, conducting entertainment programs in public places, will receive fines in the same range, if they do not respect the established measures.

A fine of 5,000 to 20,000 dinars will be imposed on the person in charge of the legal person, state body and organization or employer for failure to comply with the obligations established with respect to the celebration of the day of mourning in the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
