The main topic in Belgrade academic circles today is a letter allegedly sent by the Cabinet of the Rector of the University of Belgrade Ivanka Popovic, in which, in a very perfidious way, an attempt was made to intimidate Professor Ivan Vujacic, chairman of the Commission of Ethics of the Faculty of Economics.

From Rector Popović’s statement for Nedeljnik, but also from the content of the email, it appears that someone tried to abuse Ivanka Popović’s name to influence the decision of the Ethics Commission of the Faculty of Economics in the case of Professor Danica Popović.

In the letter Nedeljnik received, a certain “Milenko Ilić” addresses Vujačić regarding the case of Danica Popović, a professor at the Faculty of Economics. Ilic claims that it is headed “as agreed with IP” (Ivanka Popovic).

“Ilic” informs Vujacic that “Ivanka believes that non-academic actions and other colleagues should not be covered up in other proceedings, because that will be used for a media attack against you.”

Supposedly well-intentioned, the letter states that the media will attack Vujacic if the Ethics Commission, which he heads, refutes the Expert Commission’s findings in the case of Danica Popovic’s alleged plagiarism.

“We learned that both reports of the Expert Commission will be published in all the portals on Friday and that they have obtained the support of the Association of Translators. They will confirm the plagiarism in a press conference on Saturday. Surely the tabloids will follow them and send letters and they will name all the institutions. ” finds, “notes” Ilić “, supposedly on behalf of Rector Popović.

“I (Ivanka) will react in this process, because surely there will be media pressure. Of course, you do not know this email and this document. Greetings, Captain IP”, it is said in this email.

The weekly finds out that this letter stirred spirits in academic circles, and was allegedly discussed this morning at the Rectorate College.

Ivanka Popović, rector of BU, told Nedeljnik that “the email that appeared did not come from the Rectorate, which is obvious from its form and content.” Ivan Vujacic declined to comment on this information.

The commission of experts was formed after the Ethics Commission of the Faculty of Economics in 2019, at the request of Aleksandar Jaksic, a student of that faculty, initiated a procedure to determine the non-academic behavior of Danica Popovic under the accusation of plagiarism a translation of a book that he had previously done, together with his late professor Stojan Babic. .

“Jaksic first accused me of selling exams, and when he was punished with a strict reprimand and a public reprimand from the Ethics Commission of that faculty for that slander, for which he failed to unearth any evidence or find witnesses, he resorted to a false accusation that I plagiarized the translation of the textbook, in the translation and final edition of which I also participated ”, said Popović.

She noted that “everything Jaksic is doing against her has the support of the government, of which she is a relentless critic, because otherwise she would not have the support of the tabloids and agencies of the regime.”
