Today, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, will attend the meeting with the representatives of the National Convention of the European Union, as confirmed by his cabinet.
The topics of the meeting are “Foreign Policy of Serbia” and “Perspectives of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina”. The National Convention announced yesterday that the purpose of the meeting is to restart the dialogue to resolve the Kosovo issue, as well as the foreign policy issues of Serbia.
The meeting was started by the coordinator of the National Convention on the EU, Natasa Dragojlovic.
In his introductory speech, President Vučić pointed out that it is very difficult for him to speak at such a meeting.
– In Serbia, it is not easy to talk about topics about which everyone knows everything and everyone knows better. I’ve carefully read people’s comments on the topics we’ve been working on here and I’m sure I’ll have something to learn.
– The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has shown how dangerous is the so-called frozen conflicts, because everything that is frozen will one day be “thawed” by someone. In that conflict, we saw the utter impotence of the entire international community. And so I am against a frozen state of conflict. We want to preserve peace and stability, and I do not say this as a cliché, but almost at any price – says the president.
Vučić said that the situation in the world is complex and that Serbia, as a small country at the crossroads, which has problems of territorial integrity, is in a particularly difficult situation.
– I do not have to say how many representatives of different countries, who wanted to point out the possible violation of Resolution 478 on the issue of Jerusalem, reminded me that they have all violated Resolution 1244 a long time ago and that they do not care, they do not have headaches . Because, they have the right to violate everything they want, and we should not think about violating something – said Vučić.
The president said that in the past five years, Serbia has not only been the leader of the Western Balkans, but also one of the most successful European countries. Serbia is also one of the most successful countries in the fight against coronavirus.
The Convention establishes that the meeting is part of a strategic dialogue aimed at allowing a debate between representatives of civil society and senior Serbian officials on key aspects of Serbia’s accession to the European Union.
Eminent experts in foreign policy, international relations and European integration, as well as members of the Working Group of the National Convention for Chapter 35 will participate in the meeting.
