“WE HAVE NO ROOM TO BE WORSE” Dr. Janković on celebrating the New Year, taking new measures and why flattening the curve IS NOT MOST IMPORTANT

A member of the crisis staff of the Government of Serbia, Dr. Srdja Janković, said today that the gatherings of people for New Year’s Eve will be a potential danger and that at this time we have no room for the situation to be worse than What is it.

He, as a guest on the morning show “TV Pink”, said that the New Year should be celebrated as a family.

– Parties or meetings, of course not, because the current measures do not imply a meeting of people. They are prohibited for a reason. We should try to reduce any contact, even with people in the home. We have to postpone everything else for better times, and as for New Years Eve, I’d say it should be in the family circle. If we meet from the beginning, we will get worse next year than we would like it to be, said Dr. Janković, adding:

– I know that the end of the year wishes are something that, as we see, Santa Claus must bring us, everything is beautiful and romantic, but we have to provide ourselves with something, and that is a year with less coronavirus, it will be possible if we respect these measures they are in force – he stressed.

“It is not a magic wand vaccine”

The immunologist emphasized that the great and important thing is that vaccination has begun in some countries, but that it is as bad as being against the vaccine, when we see it as a “magic wand”.

– The vaccine should not be seen as a magic wand. On the one hand we have people who are unreasonably skeptical, who see a greater evil in a vaccine than in a disease, and on the other we have another extreme, which seems less dangerous, but no less dangerous, and that is that the vaccine will appear as soon as it appears . to solve all the problems, unfortunately will not. It will help, but it will not free us in the least from the need to protect ourselves – said Dr. Janković.

“We have no place for something worse than this”

When asked when we could expect the curve to level out, Janković replied that it is more important to emphasize that at the moment “we have no room for a worse situation”.

– More important to say that when the curve will flatten is that we don’t have room for this to get worse. If this gets worse, the pointless controversies over whether the system has collapsed, the health care system is still helping people, under a heavy burden. So in the first place, there is a practical and moral imperative to prevent this from getting worse.

“We are far from collective protection”

Dr. Janković pointed out that we are still far from collective protection.

– We are still very far from the threshold when it significantly affects the dynamics of the epidemic itself, the virus is still transmitted, the vaccine can change that when necessary. Trusting him at this point does not help, it only helps to comply with the measurements. What is heard, masks, distance, do not collect – he said.

“The emphasis is on the implementation of the measures”

He also referred to the adoption of new measures, explaining that the point is not in their hardening, but in the implementation of those that are in force.

– Our goal is for the situation to stop getting worse at this point, so that it stabilizes and then improves, in that order. The emphasis when mentioning new measures is not only on tightening, although it may be necessary, as it was last time, the emphasis is on their implementation. Because the measures not implemented will not help, explained Dr. Janković.
