Predrag Miketić (42) from Belgrade was arrested in Bar yesterday, for whom an Interpol arrest warrant was issued for 16 years on suspicion of killing a well-known kickboxer and member of the Yugoslav national team in Belgrade 23 years ago.
Miketic has been extradited to Montenegro and is pending extradition.
The Cvetković family was surprised by the news from Montenegro. As they told “Večernje novosti”, they have already given up all hope that the suspects in their Vladan’s death will be brought to justice.
– Miketic was only 19 years old when he killed my brother. For him to be able to escape, hide, change documents, he had to have someone, someone very powerful, who would do everything possible – says Cvetković.
He adds that his sports backpack was left next to his brother’s body, and not far from there, supposedly, a bag with a weapon, which later disappeared! This was also stated during the investigation. Later, however, as the investigation progressed, all trace of that bag was lost.
– First, they arrested Goran Pavlović, who was also charged with the murder of my Vladan. The investigation was led by then-investigating judge Dobrivoje Gerasimović, and Pavlović’s defense was taken up by one of the highest paid lawyers at the time, Ljiljana Laban. She managed to defend her client, and after only a month, he was released and defended himself from freedom. The trial was never started, although it was suspected that he was a direct witness to the murder and that he scared off my brother’s killer after the crime – he says.
Even today, the Cvetković family does not know why their son and brother were killed. Vladan has played sports his entire life and was a member of the national kickboxing team. On the fateful night, he was training, and with him in the gym was Predrag Miketić, who trained for the same club.
– We do not know if something happened in that training, but the truth is that Miketić could not have hurt my brother in another way, but to shoot him. I’m not sure what it could have been that fired the entire round at my brother in the stomach and chest. Even today, we are waiting for the answer to that question – says the brother of the murdered athlete.
According to information from “Novosti”, Miketić was arrested in Bar last week, and not yesterday, as announced by the Montenegrin media.
An international arrest warrant was issued against him in 2004, seven years after Cvetković’s murder in front of the official entrance to the Red Star stadium. The then head of Belgrade’s criminal police, Milenko Erčić, told the press conference that the motive for the murder was a “prior misunderstanding” between the murderers and the murdered man.
The injured taxi driver took him to the hospital.
Vladan Cvetković was an elite athlete and a member of the kickboxing club Crvena zvezda – Delije. When he was mortally wounded and fell on the sidewalk, and two young men fled, a taxi driver crossed him and took him to the Emergency Center. Despite the doctor’s efforts, he soon passed away.
