NATO fully respects Serbia’s policy of military neutrality. We do not care that the Serbian army is equipping itself with weapons from Russia and China, said Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg in an exclusive interview for Kurir. It notes that KFOR, the NATO mission, remains present in Kosovo with some 3,500 troops, providing a “safe and movement-free environment for all communities.”

Speaking about the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia, the first man of the world’s largest military alliance says that we must not forget the past, but must go further and look towards a better future. It also reveals that NATO is preparing for a possible second wave of coronavirus, as well as working with the United States on a “balanced response to new Russian missiles, which are dangerous and disrupting stability,” and openly acknowledging that China’s rise the global balance of power is changing.

NATO is increasingly present in the Western Balkans. What do you say to the assessments that the Alliance is the “guardian of stability and democracy” in this region of ours, that is, that someone who is preventing some new conflicts here? Because, in addition to Kosovo, where thousands of NATO soldiers are concerned about the safety of citizens, we see that the situation is not ideal in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which in many ways proved to be a dysfunctional state, then there is Montenegro, which was shaken by trzavicama …

– Euro-Atlantic security and stability in the Western Balkans are directly related. Since the late 1990s, our forces have been helping to preserve peace and stability in the region. Our offices in Sarajevo and Belgrade foster political dialogue and cooperate on a practical level. Several countries in the Western Balkans are now allies of NATO. These countries have been able to strengthen their democracy, strengthen their security, increase the safety of their citizens, and improve the economy through new foreign investment. Our policy in the region, including our open door policy, aims to strengthen stability and raise the level of cooperation. We are determined to continue helping the countries of the region to implement reforms, which benefits their citizens and the entire Euro-Atlantic family.
