Belarus has yet to receive any official notification from Serbia that it will not participate in the joint Russian-Belarusian-Serbian exercise Slavic Brotherhood 2020 which begins on Thursday.

– We have not received official documents on Serbia’s refusal to participate in the joint exercise – Belarusian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Gremeshkevich told TASS.

Earlier, Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin said that the European Union had asked Belgrade to refuse to participate in the exercise in Belarus. As a result, the Serbian government decided to freeze all joint military exercises.

The exercise of the Slavic Brotherhood traditionally gathers contingents of troops from Russia, Serbia and Belarus.

It was first held in Russia in 2015. Since then, it has been held alternately in each of the three countries.

This time, it should take place at the 38th Air Assault Brigade training ground in Brest.

The Belarusian Ministry of Defense previously announced that the participants would practice joint operations in the fight against terrorism.
