Travel agencies in Serbia have not sold deals since October 1, insurance companies have refused to insure them. The decision of the Ministry is not to revoke the licenses of the agencies, and everyone in tourism is waiting for Monday and the final outcome of the situation.
There is de facto no cooperation with insurance companies and, as the Serbian Association of Tourism Agencies put it, “to their great surprise, two very confusing advertisements appeared on the MTT website.”
First, on September 29, a notice was issued to passengers that from October 1, 2020, when purchasing a new tourist trip, as well as when organizing a replacement trip, pay attention to whether the travel agency organizing the Tourist travel has a prescribed travel license and guarantee.
Warned passengers, not agencies
“The ministry, according to whose regulations we work, despite the behavior of insurers and the cancellation of guarantees that came into force on September 30, instead of taking the position of a solution, in addition to being a mediator between insurers and American travel agencies first found it necessary to warn passengers. ” say of the Association of Travel Agencies.
The following day, Minister Rasim Ljajic stated that MTT representatives had held a meeting with the Serbian Association of Banks on the issue of bank guarantees and that a solution was being sought.
He emphasized that the Ministry will not revoke the licenses of the agencies because it expects the problem to be resolved in the next 7-10 days, because the summer tourist season ended and no new tourist arrangements are expected in that period.
“So we can work but we have nothing. Some of our members no longer have access to guarantees on their insurers’ website,” the Association told B92.
Policies have gone up in price eight times
Since the entry into force of the new regulation, in January 2020, the policies, as they affirm, “have multiplied by eight”.
“A large number of agencies paid for the policies, which cost an average of 8,000 euros, in full, so now they would find themselves in a situation in which the policies will not be extended either. What the insurance companies say is only one tactic to blackmail us again and take a lot of money. ” “What was your risk from March 15 to September 30? That the agencies that did not work get their money back, because we were in a state of emergency, while the ban on entering the EU and most of the world is still in force” explains UTAS. -a.
Travel agencies in Serbia have not sold deals since October 1
What, as they say, they are trying to achieve is that with the necessary support of the State, “they find a solution and salvation from the aggressive policy of the insurance companies and an arrogant attitude and act by which they place themselves above the State and the law without taking into account the consequences of their actions. “
On the subject of insurance, we are in favor of moving to the individual passenger insurance system, and above all we ask the Ministry to repeal, that is, modify the current Rulebook, which implies bank guarantees (rejected) to replace insurance. Shocking information and official statements, certainly not good for anyone in tourism, “they added.
As they indicated “they will not wait peacefully for Monday” or any date of the announcement announced by the minister, but they will write letters, they will go to the competent institutions “, because the excuse that the government was not formed does not mean anything in an unprecedented situation in its profession, when the luck of each employed in tourism “.
Gordana Prodić, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ANTAS, says that in early September she appealed to the authorities to react in time, but that this did not happen.
– On behalf of the ANTAS association, on September 4, I send a letter to the Ministry urging to change the existing regulation, that is, to take it out of force, since we will get into trouble on October 1 – says Prodić and adds. The Ministry invites me to a meeting on September 15. They explain that the regulation cannot be changed due to technical government and they believe we will get 1.10. insolvency policies. On October 21, I sent a letter to the ministry that we have received information from insurance companies that they will not issue new policies, as well as an annex to existing ones, and that they will give us instructions on what to do next. To date, we have not received a response. After the announcement on September 29 on the ministry’s website – notification to passengers to verify if the agency has insolvency policies, I sent a letter to the ministry at 4 pm that they revoke our right to work and therefore violated the Constitution and they gave us instructions on what to do next – he told Kurir Chairman of the Board of ANTAS and adds that to this day there is no response.
