“WE ASKED FOR MORE RIGIOUS MEASURES” Dr. Kon revealed which Crisis Staff proposals were NOT ADOPTED and what bothered him especially

“The medical part of the Crisis Staff was unanimous in proposing more rigorous measures against the corona virus, although not all of the proposed measures were adopted,” epidemiologist Predrag Kon told RTS, adding that the situation required “it to be fast and strict.”

He hopes these measures will pay off and says it is important for everyone to wear masks because with the large number of asymptomatic cases, it is impossible to know who is contagious.

Predrag Kon, as a guest on the RTS morning show, said that “the ban on public gatherings for more than five people is in force, however, it did not occur to anyone to prohibit the funeral of Patriarch Irinej, but respect was demanded for the measures “.

– I saw on television that there were cases of non-compliance with the measures, but I have no idea how it looked in general. Many, especially from the state leadership, wore masks. However, there was definitely an infection, but it will be seen only after a week, Kon said.

Speaking about the new measures proposed by the Crisis Staff, Kon stated that the medical part was unanimous and that the proposal was much sharper than the one adopted.

He explained that this refers not only to the ban on working until 5pm (instead of 6pm, which was adopted), but also referred to service activities, and the number of points proposed was higher.

Predrag Kon said there was something that was not accepted and emphasized that the measures were proposed as something very urgent, but that they will only start to apply from tomorrow.

As an explanation to that, Kon pointed to the preparations, the funeral of the patriarch, but also the economic moment. He says he can understand all that, but listen to what the Crisis Personnel medical side suggested and was more rigorous.

“Not because we want to imprison someone at any cost, but because the situation demanded that we be very fast and strict,” said Kon.

He claims that the virus is slowing down, especially in Belgrade, however, as he himself puts it, it remains to be seen whether it will continue or fall.

Kon said that we are now at full throttle, at least as far as Belgrade is concerned, and now we must persevere because he hopes the new measures will really pay off.

“We will follow the situation day by day,” Predrag Kon said.

He pointed out that every day is important to the economy, but also, he says, every day is important to curb the virus.

– There was a proposal that the masks be mandatory outdoors, but that there was no full consent from the medical part of the Crisis Staff, so it was left to use them where contacts are unavoidable. The most important thing is that the masks are used by asymptomatic cases who do not know how to carry the virus, that is, all, because there is a large presence of the virus in the population and it is not possible to know who is contagious and who is not.

Kon said there are certainly many more infected cases than the number of detected cases.

– That number in our country can be freely multiplied by ten – said Kon.
