– There are 1,430 people infected in Belgrade today, but that is much more than in the entire previous week, where that number reached 1,200. I was expecting the wave to stop this week, but unfortunately it continues to rise. In all the investigations, both old and domestic, it was discovered that the virus is much more present than it is registered, so the number of registered multiplies between 10 and 20, so that when we had about 1,000 infected it means that we had 10,000 and that on a daily level – said Dr. Kon.
The epidemiologist also added that the emergency situation is very well defined, but that the rules are not respected, and when that happens, the law is violated.
– An emergency situation has been defined, which means that when 1 in 1,000 were actively sick, we went through an epidemic a long time ago, I think July, and it never went extinct. All the measures are defined, that is very clear, but as soon as the measures are not respected, then it is clear that the law is not respected either. We cannot put everything on the same level and constantly talk about the seat of the crisis. The measures cannot be implemented because there are no legal frameworks – said Dr. Kon.
The current epidemiological situation, he says, is very close to catastrophic, which means that places for the most threatened will soon be vacated.
– There is no other plan than to vacate the places and ensure that the most difficult patients have places. I am not the one who makes the schedule, that plan worked very well in the first two waves and allowed flexibility to the health system. However, this wave is so large that it should come as no surprise that the next stage is a catastrophic epidemiological situation, which means that there is no place to treat people. I’m not saying this to scare someone, it’s just reasoning. We are not very far from that state – says the epidemiologist and adds “that there is no number that determines that state, but it looks so that we can have a place in Belgrade in a few more days, and then when they are full there will be accommodation everywhere places, and that means a huge effort, you have to provide vehicles, doctors and everything else. “
Dr. Kon points out that the gist is that we have to stop the virus, if we fail, it will stop us.
– I said that the state of emergency replaced a large number of deaths, and that made people aware, and then they criticized me a lot, now I repeat it because that is the only thing that woke up people. In this situation, there is no theoretical possibility to declare a state of emergency, there is no legal framework for that, it is simply impossible, and that is not clear, the seat of the crisis cannot declare a state of emergency.
– If you have no chance to implement even the most banal measures that are prescribed, how can we talk about anything else? Without the legal framework it should have been at least a month before to do everything, and now we will, and I have no doubt that we will find a way, but it is not entirely clear to me that there are still people who say that this is the virus it doesn’t exist yet – says Dr. Kon.
As he pointed out, he cannot realize that such a large number of people and witnesses is not enough to convince someone of the existence of the virus.
