Lately, many citizens have been confused when buying eggs, because they could find them both in the refrigerator and outside.
This situation is now regulated by the new regulation on quality, and what it really brings, explained the head of the veterinary inspection of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Zoran Ivanović.
“The new regulation came into force in January this year and aims to bring our country closer to EU standards. It involves a different marking of eggs by class,” says Zoran Ivanović.
“For an egg to be class A, it must not be washed, cleaned or treated in any other way, it is stored at a temperature above 5 degrees. Eggs stored at a temperature below 5 degrees are those that belong to Class B, and they are used for industrial use. Customers do not know if it is a well-treated food. Therefore, any temperature above 5 degrees is suitable for storing eggs. They can be stored at room temperature, they will not be damaged. ” , Ivanović adds.
As citizens already know, dairy products are stored at a temperature of up to plus 8 degrees, while fresh meat is stored at a temperature of 2 to 4 degrees.
The food storage method is prescribed by the manufacturer himself and, in accordance with its sustainability development, prescribes the shelf life and the temperature at which it is stored to maintain that shelf life.
