This decision of the Belgrade Court of Appeal changed the verdict of the Pancevo High Court, whereby Daniel, who was otherwise hampered in his development, was sentenced to a single sentence of 14 and a half years in prison for the crimes of rape and adultery against a defenseless person.
– The injured parties were instructed to make the patrimonial claim in the civil process – this is expressed in this decision of the Court of Appeals published on its website.
The court, by the way, did not provide an explanation for this decision.
The abuse of the girls was reported to the police in mid-December 2018 by employees of the Special School in Vršac, attended by the older girl, who is also disabled. They said she was behaving strangely at school, so a psychologist spoke to her. Through the story, it became known that her brother had been sexually abusing her for a long time.
Daniel was arrested on December 14 at the family home in Markovac, where he lives with his parents and five other siblings.
– It was in that house where he raped his sisters for months. He seized the opportunity when no one was home, investigating authorities claimed at the time.
