Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said tonight that the Freedom House organization’s report on Serbia is very frivolous and full of inaccuracies.
“I read the report, it is a very frivolous reading, full of inaccuracies. I thought it was written by a group of experts, and then I realized that it was written by a man, a BIRN journalist,” Vucic said at a conference call press in the Serbian presidency.
Vučić said “the funniest thing for him was that those who always spoke out against” American billionaire George Soros clung to that reading, adding that he was “one of Freedom House’s biggest financiers”.
“There are also things in the report that are true and that we have to work on and solve,” said Vucic.
In the Freedom House report for 2019, for the first time since 2003, Serbia is not classified in “partially consolidated democracies”, but in the category of “hybrid regimes” in which the government relies on authoritarianism as a consequence of democratic change incomplete.
“Engel and Albright are very powerful, they want Serbia to recognize Kosovo without making demands”
Aleksandar Vučić says that members of the American Democratic Party, who criticized his attitude towards Kosovo, are very powerful and that it is no coincidence that Belgrade expects more from the administration of the Republican President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Vučić said that “the attack on him and Serbia” by the Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the United States House of Representatives, Eliot Engel, and the former United States Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, “shows they would like that Serbia recognize an independent Kosovo and not have its legitimate demands. ”
“Brooklyn’s foremost Albanian lobbyist, Eliot Engel, is a very powerful man, and I don’t want to talk any more about the power of Madeleine Albright. She has a great influence in the United States, especially in the democratic nomenclature. It is no coincidence that we hope much more than the Trump administration, “said Vucic.
The media reported that Engel and Albright expressed regret at the House Foreign Policy Committee session that the United States is no longer supporting Kosovo as before and that Engel said Vucic was doing everything possible to undermine democracy in Kosovo.
“They accuse me of destroying Kosovo as an independent state with an iron fist. I did not use any fist, I just tried to have a free flow of goods, capital, people and services. But I am fighting for Serbia and I will continue to do that,” said Vucic.
