“The test gas has passed. We didn’t make much noise about it, but everything will start on December 30,” Vučić said, as reported by Radio Free Europe.

He announced that after the commissioning of the Turkish stream, work remains to be done on secondary gasification, that is, bringing gas to Vranje in southern Serbia, Valjevo in central and western parts, as well as places in the east and southwest.

The new Turkish Stream gas pipeline is expected to transport 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia, produced by Russian energy giant Gazprom. Half of that, 15.75 billion, is reserved for Turkey’s needs, while the other half will go further to southern and central Europe, including through Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary.

The “Turkish Stream” gas pipeline is part of Russia’s long-term ambition to minimize gas transportation through Ukraine by building alternative routes, such as, in addition to Turkish Stream, Nord Stream 1 and 2.

The Turkish Stream is an alternative to the South Stream in Serbia, whose construction was canceled at the end of 2014 due to opposition from the European Union (EU).
