Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that the whole of society faces a great and difficult task: to enter the country’s economic recovery together with great enthusiasm and energy.

“If we do that, we will be the best in Europe. But it is entirely up to us,” Vucic said during a tour of the newly opened “Radljevo – North” surface mine in the Kolubara mining basin.

He said that the state can save not only the economy with public investments, but also help the private sector emerge from the crisis.

Vučić pointed out that tomorrow is an important day for Serbia, because the VAT is coming, so it will be seen how the state’s revenues are going in May, but that everything the government has said so far has been confirmed and everything that is included in the plan to get out of the coronavirus crisis has been fulfilled. , which is “one of the best plans in Europe”.

He added that this is confirmed by data from the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other institutions, which estimated that this year Serbia “will be the first or second country in Europe” in terms of economic growth.

Vučić explained that by taking loans, Serbia essentially leaves no obligations for future generations, but invests in infrastructure development, from which everyone will benefit.

The Serbian President declared that the Kolubara Mining Basin is the heart of the country’s energy system and that the newly opened “Radljevo-Sever” surface excavation will provide coal for the next 60 years.

“Almost 500 million euros will be invested in this mine, the team will guarantee about 60 years of coal supply from this mine, until it expands further,” Vucic said after the visit, adding that the mine will provide between 13-13 , 5 million. tons of coal per year.

Vučić stated that the “Radljevo-Sever” mine has been working on discoveries since October last year, as well as that the first coal will be excavated there in 2022.

He thanked all the Kolubara miners for their efforts, because they made it possible for the electricity supply to Serbia to be uninterrupted even during the coronavirus pandemic and extraordinary circumstances.

He also told employees that there will be no layoffs or pay cuts, stressing that if the country is economically successful, there may be a further pay raise by the end of the year.

Vučić visited the mine with the Minister of Mining and Energy, Aleksandar Antić, the Minister of Finance, Siniša Mali, and c. re. EPS Director Milorad Grčić in the presence of Kolubara workers. The coal reserves in this mine are approximately 400 million tons.

Currently, 110 miners are working on the “Radljevo-Sever” excavation, and 500 to 600 are planned to be employed in the future. The coal reserves in RB Kolubara amount to at least 2.1 billion tons, and that mining basin annually provides around 30 million tons of coal.
