Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić presented gold and silver medals to individuals and institutions for their contribution to suppressing the coronavirus epidemic.
As announced by the Serbian Presidency, they were previously decorated on the occasion of the Day of Reconciliation in the First World War.
The Gold Medal of Merit was awarded to the Serbian Institute of Blood Transfusion, the Serbian Institute of Public Health “Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut”, the Vojvodina Institute of Public Health, the Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Serums “Torlak” , the Institute of Nuclear Energy and the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering.
The same recognition was awarded to the public utility company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” from Novi Sad and JKP “Vodovod” from Sremska Mitrovica.
The Silver Medal of Merit was awarded to the Belgrade Institute of Biocides and Medical Ecology, JKP “Gradska čistoća” Belgrade, Municipal Institute of Public Health in Belgrade, Gerontology Centers in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Šabac, National Organization of People with Disabilities of Serbia, Directorate of Criminal Sanctions Enforcement, Association of the Jedi Movement of Nis and the Nursery for Children, Youth and Adults with Developmental Disabilities, “Mara” of Nis.

Police Commander Nebojsa Apostolovic received the Third Degree Order of Defense and Security Merit, while Vladimir Nesic, Head of the Hardware Development Department of the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, Ognjen Ristic, associate in that department, and Biljana Glisic, doctor of the Gerontology Center of Novi Sad, received the Gold Medal of Merit. Awards were also given to five young people who saved a girl (15) from an apartment in Dorcol where a fire broke out.
Pavle Gavura, Niko David, Nemanja Držaić, Lazar Ereš and Nenad Janković all won medals.
The statement adds that due to the epidemiological situation, the decorations were awarded in accordance with the recommendations of the competent authorities regarding the number of people inside.
