Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said tonight that 1,500 people infected with the corona virus had been registered at 10:00 p.m., estimating that tomorrow would be the most difficult day since the start of the epidemic in Serbia.
During the tour of the works of the Kovid hospital in the Military Complex “Zemun ekonomija”, Vučić said that 3,000 new infected are expected, if not more, tomorrow.
He announced that the hospital should be finished in 24 days.
“We will finish this hospital on December 1, and the day after it opens, we will begin accepting patients,” Vucic said.
He said the facility will cover more than 18,000 square meters of space and will have 1,000 hospital beds, of which 250 are in intensive care.
He stated that the covid hospital in Kruševac is being built according to the same model, that it will open in front of St. Nicholas, and that there will be 150 places in intensive care in it.
The president told the mayor of Belgrade and vice mayors Zoran Radojicic and Goran Vesic that the city should build four lanes of access road in the next four to five months.
He said he and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić insisted that there should be no more restrictive measures against the spread of the corona virus infection.
“I am not interested in the reaction of people to stricter measures, if they are going to protest, I am not interested. “But we have to pay attention to the economy, we have to pay the salaries,” Vucic said.
He described the situation of the epidemic in Belgrade and Kragujevac as “catastrophic” and in Novi Sad as bad, and said that tonight, of the total number of infected people, 60 percent are from the capital. “Get serious if you want to lose your head over nothing,” emphasized the president.
“I am concerned about people’s lives, but we have to protect the economy, we have to pay salaries and pensions,” Vucic said.
He announced that Serbia will provide free vaccines, reports RTS. “It’s easy to say something against the state until you get sick and then everyone looks at the state,” the president said.
For now, he sees no signs of improvement and explains that he and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić fought with the Crisis Staff people not to introduce additional measures.
He called on all citizens to respect epidemiological measures and be careful, because, as he said, it seems “as if the whole world is infected”, and the capacities of the hospital are running out and could be filled in five days.
He also rejected the accusations that the “closure” is being introduced for political reasons, even if it involves forced measures. “All of Europe did that, but we will not, because we want to protect the catering companies,” Vucic said.
The president mentioned that for now he opposes the closure of the restoration facilities, by the people in that sector who make a living from that work, and added that they would wait another two or three days with a possible decision to shorten their working hours or close.
He added that it will depend on the number of new infected daily.
He also warned that in five days, if this continues, our capacities will be full.
Referring to his departure to Montenegro for the funeral of Metropolitan Amfilohije, he pointed out the importance of wearing masks. “I didn’t get infected in Montenegro just because I didn’t take off my mask,” Vucic believes.
According to the latest official data, since yesterday another 2,677 new cases of coronavirus have been registered in Serbia and nine people have died. A total of 60,635 people have contracted the virus in our country so far and 880 deaths have been registered.
Speaking about the victory of Democratic candidate Joseph Biden in the US elections, he said that he knows Biden much better than the previous president and Republican candidate Donald Trump.
He added that he never said anything bad about Biden, but that he would stand by his position that Trump’s victory would be better for Serbia.
“I did not lick Biden when he was in Serbia when he was very powerful, I will not do it now. Congratulations and that is the end,” said the president and said that he would wait until the morning when he would send an official congratulation.
When asked about the indictment against Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, Vučić said that he did not think it would be easier for Serbs in Kosovo after the verdict, and said he feared even bigger problems.
“It is important that those who committed crimes are held accountable for the crimes, but I only fear great and additional problems for our people,” the president said.
