My son is a real lion, he brought my faith back to life. We will preserve the memory of his mother Brankica, who gave the last atom of strength to bring him into this world, together. I think it looks a bit like her … She was a real beauty.

This is what Branislav, the husband of Brankica Ivanović, a pregnant woman from Vranje who was treated for kovida 19 at KC Niš, says about “Novosti”. Connected to a respirator, she lost the battle for life on July 27, just minutes after giving birth to her son. . Happy that after a two and a half month fight his Alexander, who was born with just 900 grams, managed to hit the respirators and finally go home, Branislav says he had all the will and strength to be the only child of both father and mother.

– My grandmothers are here to help me a little with Aleksandar in the first days. There are many children in the house and I know how to treat them, I am not afraid of how I will manage. I took a few days off, I also spoke with the doctors, they say that everything will be fine and that we will only have to do periodic check-ups. A Macedonian grandmother, Branka’s mother, is also expecting the baby at home, and her grandson will be the only consolation. When Aleksandar is strong and well, we will have a great celebration because he overcame illness and misfortune – Branislav told us.

Yesterday, the head of pediatric intensive care, Dr. Dejan Milojević, confirmed to us that everything is ready for the baby to be discharged home. The condition of weighing at least two kilograms, he says, has been met, he is in good general condition and all findings are in order.

– Now it weighs 2,150 grams. It remains to be seen how the optic nerve moves. Lungs are fine, everything is fine, breathe ambient air, eat from a bottle. We didn’t want to fire him until we were sure his father could take care of him. Regular checkups and food, that will be your job. Nothing different from full-term babies, says Dr. Milojevic.

WON WITH GREAT PAIN – LIFE

RELATIVES and friends are with Branislav all the time. Since Branka’s death, they have been trying to support him. They were both believers and Branislav recently returned to the pilgrimage. His relatives say that during a recent visit to a monastery, they were all with him and prayed that little Alexander would return home as soon as possible.

– It’s not easy for him, he retired and he’s worried. We hope that the arrival of the baby will ease his pain for the woman he loved very much. The baby they had been expecting for a long time was supposed to be the crown of their great love, one of the relatives told “Novosti”.

– Branislav will be helped by his mother and sisters, and relatives of his late wife from Kumanovo will also come. They all eagerly wait for the little one to be with them and are delighted that, in the great pain that befell them, Aleksandar still won. JS

The doctor also confirms that the fight for Aleksandar’s life was serious and difficult all the time, with ups and downs.

– It was negative for the crown, but it was admitted as an extremely immature baby, with only 28 weeks, and with a grade two, which means severe asphyxia and lack of oxygen at birth. Which antibiotic to give him, how to get him used to eating, how to give him a balanced ratio of electrolytes, carbohydrates, protein and fat intravenously, were just some of the challenges.

He also suffered several infections, in one period he was taken off the ventilator, but due to insufficient weight he was returned for another two weeks. Then he was extubated, the sisters taught him how to eat, they fed him with a bottle every day, explains Dr. Milojević.

As he says, he will remember the birth of little Alexander and the fight of doctors and nurses for his life as one of the most beautiful and difficult moments of his career. As the mother’s life died out in one hall, the cry of the baby who decided to survive rang out in the other. All together they celebrated life.

– That moment left an indelible mark on everyone’s career, because a case like this does not happen often – recalled on July 27, Dr. Vladan Cvetanović, specialist in anesthesia and intensive care. – We have a situation where Aleksandar is in a room, he is being resurrected and the last atom of his mother’s strength in the respirator is dying next to him in the operating room. The words “Come on baby breathe” still echo in my head. The moment he finally cried, the whole team will never forget him.
