Near Majdanpek, on the plateau from which the entrance to that city can be seen in the distance, but also the contours of the Stol mountain, somewhere where furrows cut the borders between Atar Jasikova and Laznica, in a place that leaves breathless travelers, on a family property, the “Jelen Homolje” deer farm was built by Perica Simeonović.

A young man who, fifteen beautiful years in imperial Vienna, was not overshadowed by the sweetness, warmth and smells of his native land, decided to start his own business three years ago. He fulfilled an old dream, to build a fallow deer farm as a lover of nature and animals, in fact, for now, a superior farm.

– This is not very common here, but it is a lucrative business in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and there are many farms in Austria, Germany and other countries. The support of my parents that I could count on, some savings from many years of working across the border, acres of family ownership and a dream of an animal farm that I adored motivated me to start something of my own – says Perica and He explains that he fenced eight hectares with a tall fence. , built a feeding area, expanded the watering hole near the spring, made an observation post and bought an initial herd of 15 fallow deer, which he acquired in Vršac.

It is a rare wild animal that is easily raised indoors. He explains that it got its name from the shovel-shaped horn, which increases from year to year. At full maturity, around eight years of age, the male fallow deer grows to 105 and the female to 60 kilograms. They usually live between 13 and 14 years, and some experts say they can live up to 20 years.

– They are calm animals, domesticated, but shy, that have quality meat, very expensive in the West and cheap in our country. My goal, however, is to breed individuals for further reproduction, for the game trade, for farms, game reserves and to improve space. I plan to get a certain amount of mouflon soon, to expand this harmonious community of animals a little – says this young man as a flock of carrots “in charge” of cleaning the space and a peacock to show off are mixed in the conversation.

In that small kingdom that she creates for animals and watches and listens with love, Perica believes that visitors to her farm will enjoy it too. Because, he says, there is no better scenario than sunrise or sunset when deer, deer, cubs appear in a shower or in a trough.

– For this to be successful, you have to love it. If there is no love for animals, nothing is worth it. Therefore, fully protected from natural enemies, with food provided during the winter, tons of corn, and plenty of hay, deer reproduce rapidly, so that every year the world sees an increasing number of new individuals. And Homolje becomes his real home – says the owner of the farm.

Perica, completely dedicated to this work, spends every day on her farm. The guests are friends and curious and he says he will not dwell on the above. He also drew up plans for a portion of the beautiful property that is just one road from the farm. It largely prepares projects for the competition of the IPARD program in the part related to rural tourism. He promises that next year he will open a restaurant in a log cabin, that he will build and prepare a couple of bungalows, apartments for tourists, as part of the ethnic settlement that he would build there. The tourist offer will be based on the healthy food produced by the local population, in their town and surroundings, on the unique specialties of this area and on the catering skills that they have mastered while working in the west.

This young man has good conditions for the realization of ambitious plans. His farm and property are about three kilometers from the paved road from Debeli Lug to Leskovo and can be easily reached by passenger vehicle on pleasant days. From there, about four kilometers away is Jasikovo, a town where the Simeonović have a large family home. This obstacle, unlike the bypass, is not in the best conditions and would mean that, with the help promised by the local self-government, it will be repaired. That would be fine, because Laznica, a town in the municipality of Zagubica, would be closer that way. With a better connection, the deer farm, the only one in this part of Serbia and the future ethnic settlement, would be closer to tourists. Some people might get a job and stay in their homeland, a landscape adorned with such beauty that many can only envy. Others may like it, visit it more frequently, enjoy that oasis of unspoiled nature, original architecture, folk crafts, preserved customs, blessings and others may decide, like Perica, to return from abroad and start new in their ancestral homes. jobs that would make this part of Serbia even more attractive, for tourism, but also for life.

Perica Simeonović is a young entrepreneur, who develops his business very well, giving his land another, among the many peculiarities that make it special. Because, in the past, due to the inaccessibility of the terrain, it was said “You cannot go to Homolje without great problems”, and what Perica does, changes the saying, so that “From the will – to Homolje” will be heard every one more time.
