On Monday, the public company “Srbijavode” began cleaning the Cukaricki arm, at the mouth of the Topcider river, according to the decision of the water inspector of the Belgrade Secretariat for Inspection Affairs, and based on reports from citizens.
H1 television has repeatedly warned in its reports about the water pollution in the backwater and the unbearable stench that has spread through that part of the city in the last month.
Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić, who visited the works, said that the cleanup would take 60 days and that he believed the problem would be solved only temporarily.
“The Topčiderska river has been an open sewer in recent decades, and that is something incredible and inadmissible. This problem has existed in our city for a long time, decades ago. , which is poisonous and creates this unpleasant odor, and then we will deal with permanently fixing the problem, ”said Vesić.
He explained that the control of all those who are in the river will begin, and everyone who, as he said, does not treat their wastewater in the way that the law regulates, will be warned and will be given a term to resolve it.
“We will no longer allow anyone to think that they can dump their fecal sewage directly into the Topčiderska river,” Vesić emphasized.
