Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić announced the adoption of the Detailed Regulation Plan for Makiško polje at today’s session of the City Assembly, which will allow the city of Belgrade to issue a building permit for the construction of a deposit at the end of next year and the beginning of the construction of the metro in the capital.

“We have been waiting 50 years for this news, more precisely on December 4, 1971. Belgrade was promised a metro for the first time. In these 50 years, Belgrade has not moved beyond the idea. The construction of the metro will begin on next year, which will be completed in 2028, “he said. Vesić, Beoinfo reported.

He noted that the adoption of the Detailed Regulation Plan for Makiško polje means that Belgrade will have one meter.

“The councilors who will vote for this plan today are voting for history. They are voting for our city to solve the traffic problems and for the rail system to become the dominant mode of transportation in the city,” Vesić noted.

He recalled that the construction of the reservoir in Makiško polje is located in the zone of greatest protection of the water source and the space in which construction was allowed, which, as he emphasized, was confirmed by the study of the Institute “Jaroslav Černi” .

Vesić recalled that in 1956 70 kilometers of tracks, 174 switches and a train depot were built on the same site. Also, as he said, blocks 44, 45 and 70 in New Belgrade are in the area of greatest protection of water sources.

“With regard to all measures, such construction did not affect the quality of drinking water. The new false story, which has spread in recent days about the water supply in danger, aims to prevent Belgrade from obtaining a meter,” Vesic said, urging councilors to support the adoption of a detailed plan. regulations for Makiško polje.

However, part of the public disagrees with Vesić and warns that construction in Makiško polje will endanger Belgrade’s water supply. Thus several dozen protesters gathered in front of the Sava Center, where a session of the city parliament is taking place to discuss the plan for Makiško polje.

Vesić said that what happened in front of the Sava Center was an “organized political mob”, brought in with the aim of preventing the construction of the subway.

He also said that the assembled protesters “don’t care about Makish, they want the subway not to be built.”
