Vegetable grower Radovan (68) from Kikinda revealed the key detail of his success! He’s been listening to them for 40 years and they’ve never let him down

Besides these rare feathered birds in the chicken family, Radovan doesn’t need another weather forecast. The weather forecast is very useful for working in the fields of this oldest orchard in Kikinda. There is no use of television, says Radovan with experience.

– When the sailors “sing”, I know the weather will be fine. As soon as they start making sounds like “čokanj”, “čokanj”, “čokanj”, it is quite certain that it will rain or snow, states this vegetable.

– Although meteorologists are wrong to announce the weather, the seas are infallible for 40 years, and my work in the field depends a lot on the weather conditions – says Sivčev, who does not go to the field without a worse weather forecast.

He also has chickens, roosters, and pigs in the yard, but carrots come in handy in many ways. This unusual and useful poultry, also known as “pearls” for its thick, pearl-gray feathers, as well as being a great weather forecaster, has great nutritional value and disperses pests.

– I have more than 20 of them. Their meat and eggs are specialties and are extremely healthy. They are more nutritious than chickens, but also much more expensive. Carrot soup is the most beautiful. It is recommended for patients, because it also has healing properties.

The meat is darker in color than chicken, it is richer in minerals, vitamins and proteins, and the eggs are smaller and have a tougher and more speckled shell – add vegetables and add – Rats flee from their “song”, so deratization is not necessary. Carrots warn with their voice about the appearance of rodents and, unlike chickens, they do not touch the plantations, as long as there is an insect nearby, so they can also be useful in organic production, says Radovan Sivčev.

Carrots have only one flaw: they are very noisy, he says. We saw this for ourselves while visiting this host, when not all sides were frightened by strangers in their territory, making it difficult to “capture” them with a camera.

However, if the forecasters weren’t so loud, Radovan wouldn’t even know how to plan his business, so, he says, the noise is negligible and the “song” of the sea is worth its weight in gold.

Young people flee the fields

Kikinda’s oldest vegetable grower received numerous awards for tomato and cucumber production at a time when Kikinda’s businesses were also flourishing. With its collapse, agricultural production lost its importance and promotion.

– Young people today have no desire to dedicate themselves to vegetables. It is a great job, it takes a lot of investment, first to sow the seed, save it and only then collect the fruit. I do everything without spraying, just with a hoe and a hoe, which is very difficult – says Radovan Sivčev.
