The meeting of the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelji, with the opposition representatives was held at the “Hilton” hotel in Belgrade.

The chairman of the Democratic Party, Zoran Lutovac, stated that in the meeting with the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelji, he suggested that before the implementation of the investment plan for the Western Balkans, the political situation in Serbia should stabilize and that there is a need for EU mediation.
At that meeting, Varhelji presented the Investment Plan, and Lutovac told reporters that he had pointed out to Varhelji that there should be a dialogue before the plan could be implemented.
“A concrete dialogue is needed involving the relevant opposition parties and the presidents of the parliamentary parties,” Lutovac said at the press conference after the meeting with Varheji.
He proposed the formation of a commission to deal with the European Commission’s progress report on Serbia, which was released on Tuesday, and the commission should be mixed and composed of experts from Serbia and Europe. Lutovac reiterated that EU-mediated talks would have to focus on specific issues that “can be checked” and cited the example of the work of Serbian radio and television.
The vice president of the People’s Party, Zdravko Ponos, stated, commenting on the proposed investment plan, that the money should not be given unconditionally because it would act as unconditional support from the Serbian authorities. He stressed that the condition to obtain money must be to advance on key issues such as the rule of law.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelji declared in Belgrade that the new EU economic and investment plan for the Western Balkans will ensure sustainable economic growth and the region’s progress on the European path and its single market approach to the Union.
