The Association for the Protection of Constitutionality and Legality (UZUZ) assessed that the sudden election of Olivera Zekić to the presidency of the Council of the Electronic Media Regulatory Body (REM), after working for quite some time without a president in the same composition , is an indicator that decisions are made outside of these bodies that should be independent in their work.
“Instead of restricting reality, the entry of reality in REM was voted”, is stated in the announcement of this Association.
It is reported that Zekić, together with the owner of Pink TV, once participated in a media lynching of former Minister of Culture Vladan Vukosavljević, who proposed a legal solution which he later proposed in the form of official law through the popular initiative UZUZ.
The consequences of media torture, it is noted, were such that the minister avoided commenting on the proposal for which he once defended.
National frequencies that are a public good have been usurped and according to the law must be used for objective information and cultural content, as well as institutions that would have to sanction violations of the law, UZUS warned.
“By electing REM members, the Assembly was supposed to create preconditions for the implementation of the law, but the last election allowed REM’s complicity in violating the law to continue,” the statement said.
