USB 4 is in the final stages of pre-launch preparation, and now the VESA Standardization Agency has announced that USB 4 will fully support the large bandwidth available for DisplayPort 2.0. This means that USB 4 will also work on devices like 8K 60Hz HDR or even 16K 60Hz monitors.
Since USB 4 runs at 40Gbps and DisplayPort 2.0 supports 80Gbps, the question is how it will work. USB 4 can actually send and receive 40 Gbps at the same time, so VESA used this option to add a new specification, called DisplayPort Alt Mode 2.0. The mentioned mode will perform additional mapping of USB-C data pins in one direction, allowing for duplication of speeds.

According to DisplayPort Alt Mode 2.0. will support standard USB 4 cables. At the same time, monitors won’t need USB 4 drivers, which will simplify screen layouts. With Thunderbolt 3 compatibility, USB 4 will become the universal connectivity standard for both computers and phones.
