The United Opposition of Serbia held a platform on the work of the public media service called “Liberation of RTS”. Speakers noted that RTS, which is funded by all citizens of Serbia, was captured and turned into a one-man service: the President of Serbia. A message was sent to both the government and the public service leadership that there will be no democratic elections until the media is known.
It is necessary to unleash RTS for a different opinion, says playwright Siniša Kovačević. When asked how to achieve that, Kovacevic says the opposition has a plan, but will not reveal its trump cards before the announced dialogue with the government.
“There will be no election until the right conditions exist. Until the thought is clearly formed, until there is a vote, I repeat the vote. That will not be until the media is published,” says Kovacevic.
Psychologist Zarko Trebjesanin highlights that RTS is the first, and for some the only source of information for many citizens, but that it has betrayed that trust.
“I’m sure there are good professionals and experts out there, but they are trapped and they can’t do their job. So RTS has really fallen into some lower limbs,” Trebjesanin says.
Zoran Lutovac recalled that RTS never reported on scandals like Krusik or the troublemaker Aleksandar Obradovic on their shows.
“We have to have the conditions for the best to apply to the contests. We don’t have that now. We don’t need quotas, the Board between both the government and both the opposition. Not that. We need credible people,” says Lutovac.
The RTS team was present at the rostrum, which the participants assessed as a good sign, so the public service team was welcome.
