UNDISCOVERED DETAILS: Stefan Nemanja’s reflection in the mirror – No monument like that has been made

He arrived in the capital in early August and will supervise Savski trg’s works at the construction site from morning to night until mid-November.

Reporters from “Novosti” meet the head of the Russian team in charge of erecting the monument at the construction site, where he is coordinating with the workers the unloading of the pieces that arrived in trucks from Russia. As a true host, he shows us each fragment of the future “mosaic”.

– I’ll be here until the monument is mounted – says Laskarev. – Russian masters are currently working on the construction of the monument. Everything is progressing correctly. On Friday the helmet arrived, which must be assembled on site, to place the mosaic. When we finish, two more trucks arrive.

Wearing the suit of a nuclear missile engineer, Laskarev “jumped” into the suit of the chief of field supervision, as part of Rukavishnik’s team. For ten years, he has been in charge of erecting many monuments in Moscow, the last in a row was: a monument to Gladiator in front of the Spartak Stadium in Moscow. He says that he is in contact with Rukavishnikov almost every day.

– This is life. I worked in the profession, so I reoriented myself to this job. For me it is an interesting job … Master, when you imagine how everything will be, first you make small figures, then large ones, it is really interesting work. I have a plan for each day, you know exactly what to do today and what to do tomorrow. I don’t care if Aleksandar doesn’t like something; Laskarev is sure.

As we walk through Sava Square, he shows us parts of the scepter, which will become a whole at the end of September. We arrive at the pedestal itself, the hole that was dug, where the reflection of the monument will be seen in the mirror that will be placed.

– An air conditioner, that is, a refrigeration system, will be installed in that hole, so that the glass does not mist – says Oleg. – The monument will be reflected in that, and it will be magnificent. No monument is made like this, it is an ingenious idea of ​​a sculptor.

Our interlocutor heard that some people dispute the monument for its size, but he says that he is used to it and that from a distance it will eventually be accepted:

– So it was with the Eiffel Tower.

MOSAIC – STARRY SKY

WHILE Oleg Laskarev supervises the works, his colleague Anatoneli Celishev implements the mosaic according to the master’s idea. He also worked on the mosaic of the Temple of Saint Sava in Nikolaj Mukhin’s team.

– The mosaic on the Stefan Nemanja monument will be a starry blue sky, like frescoes, with yellow stars – says Celishev.

• THE COMPETITION for the selection of the conceptual solution for the future appearance of the monument to Stefan Nemanja was announced in 2018.
• Russian Alexander Rukavishnikov’s idea was chosen as the BEST solution.
• Last year the dumping began in his Moscow studio and, at the beginning of August this year, the first pieces left for Serbia.
• It is PLANNED to be installed in mid-November.
