The prosecutor’s office in Csongrád, Hungary, brought an accusation against two citizens of Serbia and Z. M. from Hungary because they attempted to smuggle 18 kilograms of marijuana from Serbia to Hungary, using a paraglider.

– Two years after the unusual smuggling attempt, an indictment was brought against the trio of paragliders, accusing them of smuggling large amounts of drugs and illegally crossing the state border, a source told Hungarian media.

The indictment alleges that the three suspects have crossed the Serbian-Hungarian border multiple times since May 2018 to find suitable terrain to land and take off.

– In the end, they agreed that the action would take place near Horgos. The drugs are suspected to have been purchased from Novi Sad, packed in black bags and loaded on a paraglider. The plane was heading towards Horgos when it was dark, but shortly after takeoff there was a breakdown and the paraglider crashed as soon as it crossed into Hungary. Border police arrested the injured paraglider at the scene of the accident, and an additional investigation established that two more people were involved in the action, the source recalls.

It was established that the three defendants had known each other for a long time because they worked for the same company in Szeged.

– Using their knowledge, but also resources and love for paragliding, they agreed to smuggle drugs across the border in a very unusual way – said the source.
