According to the professor at the Belgrade Banking Academy Ismail Musabegovi, it is quite possible that the water will be traded in the future, but for the moment it is a derivative value, in order to protect against risks, reports Dnevnik.
He points out that water is currently on the stock market as a financial instrument, that is, futures, which means that it has been trading for three months.
“Water is a kind of derivative, like gasoline, a derivative of petroleum, and the price of gasoline also depends on the price of oil. With futures, you have the right to take the merchandise or not. Since you don’t drink water, It is a hybrid instrument that should be a commodity, but it is financial. It is a regrettable derivative, some say that others do not, but with it you protect yourself from risk, “said Musabegovi.
Water is bought on the stock exchange by giving a certain amount of money, a down payment, and the value is in the contract entered into on the stock exchange.
“They imagined it in acres, a measure of the surface of the earth. Ten acres in our country is an area of about four hectares, whose water depth is about 30 centimeters. That amount of water is a contract. For the futures , a contract is a unit of measure as in the case of apples, a kilogram. The contract gives you the right to buy or sell that amount of water for some future delivery, “said Musabegi.
For now, California farmers are interested in trading water on the stock market.
“In California there are frequent droughts due to climate change and when it is dry, the price of water goes up. The stock market is based on supply and demand, if the supply is higher, the price goes down, if it lasts longer, the price goes up. and the price will go up, “Musabegovi said.
It is, therefore, a stock product at the beginning of the century. Currently, there is relatively little water in the stock market and how much will be accepted globally remains to be seen.
“Water is the future because, in addition to agriculture, people are also water users. Serbia is rich in water and we have little awareness of how important it is and how much we have to conserve it as ecological water. Water will really be something. for us, the world will enter the future ”, stressed Musabegovi.

“Droughts, floods, high temperatures accompanied by high evaporation of water can cause temporary and even permanent supply interruptions.
