That is, as the president of the Association of Serbian Tourism Agencies, Marija Matijevic, explains for Tanjug, agencies can currently only organize excursions and sell individual services such as tickets or hotel accommodation, if they have a commercial and technical cooperation agreement. with them.
“While the Tourism Ministry said it would not remove the agencies’ licenses, regardless of whether their insurance policies have expired, we interpret the current situation in such a way that we cannot sell packages, but only individual services,” Matijevic said.
He adds that the agencies these days are mostly contacted by citizens who have already paid for the arrangements and, in a panic, ask what will be the destination of their trips.
We answer that the trips already agreed are not a problem and that they are covered by insurance, but that only until further notice, that is, until the problems related to the insurance policies, such as travel guarantees, are resolved, there will be no new ones. contracts ”, explains Marija Matijevic.
He points out that it would now be an acceptable solution for travel agencies to extend the validity of the policy with an annex for a specified period, say three months, and to find a legal solution with the corresponding ministry in the meantime.
Regarding the bank guarantee, as a possible solution announced at a recent meeting at the Ministry of Tourism, Marija Matijevic considers that it is realistic to expect it to be economically unfavorable for travel agencies, since, as she says, bankers already deal with this sector as high risk. .
“The colleagues from the previous period had problems obtaining bank loans for the purchase of furniture with the explanation that they are from the high-risk sector, so I am afraid that these guarantees will be even more difficult to obtain, and if we get them they will be expensive for our capabilities “, he concludes.
