Tonight, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will announce the name of the prime minister appointed for the composition of the future government of Serbia, as well as the policy that he, as president, expects the government to follow.
It is not yet known who will be the SNS coalition partners in that government.
The head of state previously announced several options, such as the SNS government with minorities, the coalition with the SPS, the coalition with the SPAS, as well as the concentration government, but in the meantime, the first seems to be the least likely and the second the least speculated.
Vučić’s speech at the Palace of Serbia will be preceded by a session of the SNS Presidency, and it is possible that after it, progressives will know which of them will be in Nemanjina 11.
So far, the media has “rallied” various governments, and some of the current ministers “have been seen” in most of these “puzzles”, including Sinisa Mali, Zoran Mihajlovic, Branislav Nedimovic, but also Maja Gojkovic, Goran Vesic, Marko Cadez.
However, Vučić said in an interview with Austrian media over the weekend that he would recommend more significant changes than expected.
He also said then that forming a government is not easy, because, he says, there are people in his party who think they have a rented ministerial seat.
Vučić and other parties believe that, although the SNS has a clear majority in the assembly.
– There was a lot of corruption and many did it wrong or did not work at all. Therefore, I will recommend more significant changes than expected, and that will be visible in the coming days, Vučić said.
The government election will certainly be preceded by the election of the parliamentary leadership, which is expected this week, and thus the conditions for the election of a new prime minister post will be fulfilled, which will likely occur next week. In the parliamentary elections, the SNS obtained a more than convincing majority.
Immediately after the formation, the new Government of Serbia, as well as the deputies, will have their hands full, as some issues have already been announced, and some are already implicit, such as the discussion on the budget for next year and the continuation of the European integration process.
Recently, Vučić himself announced that as soon as the new government is formed and the assembly begins to work at full capacity, the issue of Kosovo and Metohija will be presented to MPs.
The state is also facing the challenges of the ongoing coronary virus pandemic, and a change in the Constitution may be before the new majority.
