Tonight the new measures adopted by the Government of Serbia come into force – all service facilities, except pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants that have distribution, must close at 9:00 p.m. This measure is limited to two weeks, that is , until December 1, and if the epidemiological situation does not calm down by then, new, even more drastic measures are threatened!
The key measure adopted in the Government session on Sunday refers to the reduction of the working day in cafes, restaurants, discos, shops, cinemas, theaters and others. The bar’s working hours have been shortened for the third time and they can now work until 9pm instead of 11pm like yesterday.
If this doesn’t work, it’s a curfew!
As stated by the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, the reduction in working hours is limited to two weeks, therefore after that period the results achieved with this provision will be evaluated.
If the number of infected people starts to decrease, the measures will be abolished, and if the number of infected people continues to rise, the measures may be more stringent.
Thus, it is possible to wear masks in the open air, as well as to further shorten the working hours of catering facilities and, as a last resort, a curfew is also possible!
As for the first two, some members of the crisis staff have been advocating for that for a long time: Dr. Predrag Kon has repeatedly said that masks should be mandatory outdoors, such as walks, and gave the example of the Knez Mihailova street in Belgrade: and as for the possible new working hours of the catering facilities, it could be reduced to 18 hours.
How will the curve move at the end of the month?
Dr. Branislav Tiodorović made a dramatic prediction this morning, which is that we cannot expect the curve to flatten out by the end of this month, but that we will have even more infected people, and that flattening can only happen in early December. This is exactly the time when measurements are limited.
He added that the first effects of the measures that begin to be applied tonight can be seen in 7 to 10 days.
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić emphasized once again in the morning that if the measures are not respected, Serbia will potentially be threatened by even stricter measures, as well as the most difficult option: curfew.
What other measures apply
It should be remembered that, in addition to these measures, which come into force tonight, in Serbia it is mandatory to wear masks indoors, but also outdoors if it is not possible to maintain a distance greater than 1.5 meters (queues in front of post offices, banks, etc.) meetings of more than five people.
Finally, the amendments to the Law for the Protection of the Population against Infectious Diseases have arrived to help respect all the measures, both new and old. This will raise both control and punishment to a known higher level.
Hours of work: the most commonly violated measure
By the way, nightclubs are the places that most often turn a deaf ear to compliance with the prescribed measures, mainly with regard to working hours. Although they could work until 11pm until yesterday, the clubs were often packed until the wee hours of the morning and there was no talk of wearing masks and keeping distance.
That is why many members of the Crisis Team for the fight against the corona virus have characterized the clubs as a “focus of infection”.
