Today we celebrate the Faith, Hope and Love of the Holy Martyrs

Today, the Serbian Orthodox Church and the believers commemorate the Holy Martyrs Vera, Nada, Ljubav and their mother Sofia, who were Christian saints and martyrs of the 2nd century.

They represent the true and enduring virtues on which the entire Christianity and Western cultural system rests.

Today’s holiday is dedicated to women and their children, mainly daughters. It is believed that today’s girls should be happy with a gift, however modest.

A gift can also be essential, intangible; At least today, give him your undivided attention and show how much you love him.

The girls’ names, Love, Faith and Hope, became a symbol of the life of every Christian.

Serbian people believe that on this day one should especially refrain from evil thoughts and actions and dedicate oneself to love of neighbor and God (in that sense, here is the meaning of Love as the highest relationship with God).

The Feast of Faith, Love and Hope (Church Slavic Faith, Hope and Love; Pistis, Elpis and Agape in Greek; Fidesz in Latin, Spes et Caritas) is actually dedicated to the three Christian virtues known in the First Epistle of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.

Sophia (Greek word for wisdom) was a widow and raised her daughters in Rome, who were 12 years old, Hope 10 and Love 9 years old.

When the arrests of Christians began during the reign of the emperor Hadrian, Sophia was captured with her daughters and brought before the emperor. After they refused to renounce their faith and offer sacrifices to the goddess Artemis, Hadrian ordered the torture of Sophia’s daughters, even though they were only girls. Thus they all perished.

The mother took their bodies and buried them outside the city. After three days and three nights of prayer at her grave, she herself died in 137.
