A member of the crisis staff for coronavirus suppression, epidemiologist Dr. Branisla Tiodorović, told H1 that returning students to universities will certainly be a greater challenge than leaving children for school.
Tiodorovic recalled that students come to large university centers, especially Belgrade, from all parts of the country, even from the region and beyond, and as he said, neighboring countries “have a much higher number of positives, and unfortunately even deaths. “.
However, he added that he hopes the students are responsible, and expressed confidence that they understood it themselves after the events of June and July, when we faced a sharp jump in the number of people infected by the coronavirus.
Tiodorović claimed that five students are currently “accompanied” in Niš, but that the presence of coronavirus has not yet been confirmed in any of them.
At the same time, children who do not make it to school due to coronavirus-like symptoms attended three schools in Nis, and Tiodorović pointed out that this was expected and that it was very important that in those situations it was demonstrated that parents, educators and the health system monitor the situation. daily and respond in a timely manner.
“However, we do not have a situation where schools have to close due to an increased number of sick children, nor are we absolutely close to such a situation,” Tiodorovic stressed, rejecting public speculation that schools could be closed in October due to to the expected increase in the number of infected. .
“We do not have that type of data, nor such a situation that we are thinking of closing schools in October. Everything is possible, we must be aware that the virus is there, but there is a greater danger than those who return from summer vacations” said the interlocutor from H1. children who come home from vacation should not go to school for seven to ten days.
He also said that employers must understand that the mother or father has the right to keep the child, if there is a suspicion that he is infected with the coronavirus.
“You have to understand that a worker who is free to think about whether a child is good will be a better executor of the job when he gets to work after those few days with a child, than being forced to work and send a child to daycare or the school that is not completely healthy, “warned Tiodorovic.
However, he explained that research has shown that young children, especially those under the age of four, are rarely a source or transmitter of infection, while high school students need more caution because they move a lot, have a lot of contact and can be dangerous. mainly for parents and grandparents.
Tiodorović also said that in the previous six months, not only employees in the health system gained experience, but also citizens who understood that self-discipline means a lot.
He also said that he has nothing against organizing cultural events, if the organizers commit to respecting all the measures, because ability, according to him, is very important to free people from discipline and helps them understand that they can live with the crown and succeed. carry along. However, he added that we still have to wait about 15 days for the schools to get used to it and for people to return from their summer vacation.
