Miladin Kovačević (33), suspected of abusing and torturing Tina T. (26) on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday and threatening her safety with threats, was released to defend himself yesterday, after a hearing at the First Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade. As his defense attorney, Ivan Gvozdenac, confirmed to Kurir, Kovacevic was prohibited from communicating with Tina T. and her sister.

He denied everything

– In his defense, Kovacevic claimed that he saw the injured party, but that he did not threaten her that night, as well as that he did not hurt her. After she described in detail how Tijana behaved and what was happening, she did not want to answer the questions of the assistant prosecutor – it was announced yesterday from the prosecution, which asked the court to order custody of the suspect.

Mutual accusations

Images of an argument and a scratched door

As Kurir announced yesterday, a video appeared on social networks where the discussion that preceded the drama could be heard in Miladin Kovacevic’s apartment. Tina apologizes to Kovacevic and begs him to let her into the apartment. – After the fight and Kovacevic’s refusal to open it, he allegedly started scratching the door with a sharp object, which he damaged because he managed to engrave “Miladin is k …” on it, but did not finish it – Kurir’s source reveals .

As Kurir unofficially learns, the former basketball player, who became known to the public after beating a college colleague in America in 2008, spoke in detail about how Tina T. arrived at his door on those fateful afternoons, he begged and asked to receive her inside. During the defense presentation, according to Kurir’s interlocutor, he stated that the girl harassed him that night, as if they were not in a relationship, but that they occasionally had intimate relationships.

Supposedly, not wanting to open it, he heard a scratch on the front door and when he opened it, he found Tina T. damaging his front door.

– He admitted that they were arguing and said that she was chasing him that night, banging on his door and harassing him, as well as that she hit him with a bag and shot him with a mobile phone when he opened the front door – says Kurir’s interlocutor from the investigation .

Listening to the girl

In the continuation of the investigation, Tina T. and her sister, from whom she allegedly fled after the incident, must testify at the prosecution, but also present other evidence to determine what happened in Kovacevic’s apartment in Belgrade. Let us remind you, she said that Kovacevic pulled her hair and broke her mobile phone.

Lawyer:

Serbia is a state governed by the rule of law!

Miladin Kovacevic’s defense attorney, attorney Ivan Gvozdenac, told Kurir that the court’s decision not to detain Kovacevic restores faith in the judiciary.

– This court decision restores faith in the system and shows that Serbia is a state governed by the rule of law, that no one can denounce it without proof. The law is cruel, but the law must be the same for everyone, this example shows that we all have the same treatment in court, if we have fulfilled our debt to the company – says Gvozdenac.

– In the subsequent course of the procedure, the prosecution will examine the injured party, the injured party’s family member and the eyewitnesses of the event if it is determined that there were any, then it will examine the injuries suffered by the injured party, review videos and take all the other evidentiary actions.

Let us remind you, the former basketball player beat student Brian Steinhauer in America 12 years ago. The state of Serbia then paid the family of the beaten young man $ 900,000 in compensation, and Kovacevic was sentenced to two years and three months in prison in our country two years later, on the basis of a plea agreement, before the First Court of First instance.
