Today, at the exit of the Horgos crossing, customs officers managed to discover and prevent the smuggling of 8.4 kilograms of heroin and 120 boxes of cigarettes hidden in the double bunker of a Kosovo bus.
The following were arrested: SB (1971), HL (1976), KR (1988), KS (1972), SA (1995) and SA (1991), the police announced.
The suspects were detained for up to 48 hours and will be transferred to the Superior Public Ministry of Subotica, along with a criminal complaint.
Heroin and cigarettes were discovered when a Kosovo airline bus with six drivers and 40 passengers, traveling on the AP KiM – Switzerland line, arrived on the line for a regular check out of the country.
Given that customs officials discovered smuggled cigarettes in the vehicles of the same carrier on several occasions during the previous months, there was a real possibility that on one of the following occasions an attempt was made to smuggle some more goods.
Wanting to verify the presumption, customs officials sent the bus for a detailed scanner check when it was confirmed that they were correct.
In other words, the image from the scanner indicated the existence of a special double bunker intended for smuggling, which was placed on the floor, between the front wheels of the bus. What is specific is that the outlines in the scanner image indicated the existence of two separate bunkers, one of which was supposed to be a screen for the other.
Then, customs agents opened the first bunker and found 120 boxes of cigarettes of various brands in it, to detect a wooden barrier in front of which it was sprinkled with peppercorns, presumably with the intention of distracting the official dog from a more control.
After removing this wooden partition, a space lined with polystyrene appeared in front of the customs officials, in which 16 packages of approximately half a kilogram of heroin were placed, making it a total amount of 8.4 kilograms.
After the drugs and cigarettes were discovered, the police and the prosecution were informed of everything, while the bus driver was completely calm during the detailed control and after the discovery of this crime. When customs officials asked him what was in the other bunker, he briefly said: chocolate.
