Work on the barrel linking the Belgrade Fortress and the Sava Pier has been completed, so that citizens of Belgrade and Belgrade can descend into the river from tomorrow, Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic said tonight.
“Catwalk was completed yesterday and this is the first time that we have a physical connection between the Belgrade Fortress and the Sava Quay, and this is, in a way, a true descent from Belgrade to the river,” Vesic told Tanjug.
In the continuation of the walkway, he added, there is a rebuilt Sava Quay near the Concrete Hall, and work is now underway on the arrangement of the Sava Quay to the Branko Bridge, from where the Sava Promenade continues within Belgrade on Water.
“In the coming months we will have a completely renovated Sava Quay, rebuilt and manufactured to all world standards, from the Belgrade Fortress to Gazela,” said Vesic.
The space on the other side of the walkway is a landscaped park with benches and a fountain in the middle, which, according to the deputy mayor, is one of the 40 fountains that the City of Belgrade has announced it will build.
“I hope that the citizens of Belgrade will enjoy this catwalk. I believe that we have a real object that increases the comfort of our population. Our tendency is to increase the pedestrian zones and the bicycle lanes, so that the citizens can walk and enjoy their city. as much as possible”. and this is another contribution to that, “Vesic said.
The city’s urban planner, Milan Stojicic, says that the old dream of connecting the city and the river came true by opening a walkway, and that it is an example of effective cooperation between architects, urban planners and sculptors.
“This catwalk is the work of great world and local artists Richard Deacon and Mrjan Bajic, they are responsible for such a beautiful appearance of the catwalk as well as the park, and its conceptual design has been completely respected,” says Stojicic.
She explains that the walkway is a combination of steel and reinforced concrete construction, is adapted for people with special needs, contains an elevator and is illuminated, and is also connected to the garage in the Concrete Hall.
“The space next to Pasarella is completely new and the citizens of Belgrade have never used it for recreation or anything else. Also, this point continues in a future park of lines that we are starting to build in the second half of next year” Stojicic says.
He adds that the entire area along the banks of the Sava and the Danube is a total of seven kilometers of new attractive area, which, he points out, has the important function of connecting the urban part of the city with the rivers, in addition to the esthetic.
