On this occasion, Bojana Radoičić Milenković, wife of Zoran Milenković, aged forty-three, a police officer in Kuršumlija, who succumbed to the coronavirus in Niš hospital on December 19, 2020, reacted. She claims that only one was returned to her part of things, while others were told they were “lost.”
– On Sunday, December 20, 2020, when we took over the body of the deceased, as well as the days after, we realized that his personal belongings that were with him during his stay in the hospital had disappeared. After the call and the request for the return of the personal documents, it was said that he was “lost”. After the threat of a lawsuit, it was said that things were found and that we could take care of them at any time.
But when taking over, only 4,000 dinars and ID were returned, without a mobile phone, bank cards that were in the same place as the ID, in the case of the mobile phone. Also, the jacket and other things that were with him in the last few days, they just disappeared! As a family that has lost their father, husband, son, brother, we hope that this will reach someone who can help us, and that is why we hope that this will not happen to anyone again – said Bojana.
She says that she looks for her husband’s things because they have sentimental value to her.
– I was not afraid of being robbed, the ATM card was immediately blocked. However, I worried about getting her clothes, blankets and especially the phone. It contains many of our joint photos and recordings, which mean a lot to me now – said Bojana.
The Nis Clinical Center explained that they are working intensively on the classification and identification of the things left by patients, and that a special body has been formed for this work.
The head nurse of the Nis Clinical Center, Sonjica Radić, says that every day the belongings of patients who were treated at this health institution are listed to return to the owners.
– It is a very complex job because we have thousands of different things for patients. Everything is entered into the records both the paperwork and the computer. It is a great job that involves a certain procedure. In other words, things in the “red zone” have to spend a certain number of days in the “green” due to decontamination so that our staff can handle them safely. Let’s go in order, we register everything before inviting the owners to take care of them because it is very important to know who it is from. There are many unidentified things and people, which also makes work difficult. There’s also a big problem with mobile phones because family members often don’t even know what brand of the requested device it is, Sonjica explains.
He said he believes the late Milenković’s belongings will soon be found, which is what happened. Shortly after the conversation with the journalist, the head nurse called and informed him that all his things were packed and ready to be collected.
– The problem arose because he was first treated at the Infectious Diseases Clinic. When switching to another, some of the material stayed there. Cards and a phone were found, as well as other items missing, the head nurse said.
On this occasion, the journalist called Milenković’s widow again, who told her that she would only believe these words when she saw things with her own eyes.
– And the first time they called us, they told us they had found all their belongings. I hope this time is really like that – said Bojana.
