They were friends of the house until a semi-concert piano arrived in 2017

One of the best young Serbian pianists Vladimir Acimovic (18) from Nis, a third-year student at the Belgrade Faculty of Music and the Graz Conservatory, will soon be in the second hearing of the Juvenile Court in his hometown because he received around 100 reports in the last four years. By practicing the piano, he disturbed public order and peace by causing noise in the building.

Exercise is not noise

Only one tenant of the building in the Nis settlement, Stevan Sindjelic, sued him, while the others signed that he could practice freely. The neighbors of that building are all artists and scientists, so the angry neighbor is a respected professor at the Faculty of Nis. The Acimovics, who live on the second floor, and this teacher’s family, who lives just upstairs, on the third floor, used to be friends from the house, and then instead of a piano in 2017, a semi-concert instrument reached the second floor, causing a fight.

The agony of the Acimovic family has gone so far that Vladimir sent an open letter to the media to the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vucic, since when he asks him “to react to the legislator that practicing the piano is not noise.”

– It is not a matter of arrogance, I study two colleges and I am rarely at home in Nis, which means that I do not play 10 hours a day, I do not play at night … All commitments were tried, but I still found myself on the court . I believe that at this moment I am the only artist who has found himself in front of a judge due to the practice of the instrument. I do not ask for anything more than what the law prescribes, and that is practicing outside the rest time during the day – Vladimir said for Kurir.

Life mission

He adds that his parents are piano teachers and that they had to buy an electric piano because of the apps.

– Now they and I practice with headphones. The neighbor also reported us during the state of emergency, when he was in town and just assumed that I was practicing, and not even a piano tone could be heard from the apartment at that time. It is as if a life mission has been set so that the piano can never be heard from our apartment – concluded Vladimir, otherwise a fellow of the Fund for Young Talents and winner of numerous awards and recognitions in national and international competitions.

NEIGHBOR REQUESTED COMMITMENT: My pillow is five feet from the piano

l Vladimir’s neighbor did not want to introduce himself to the public, but told Kurir that he was trying to find a compromise solution:

– Little Vanja was a wonderful boy, I showed him math. They and we both moved in 2005 and for a full 11 years, while they had a piano, we didn’t say a word. It was heard, but not so much. Then in 2017, they brought a semi-concert piano that makes our floor shake, and now I have kids too. He played from morning until 3 in the afternoon and then from 5 or 6 in the afternoon to 10 at night. I met with his father two or three times, he wanted to finance the isolation, but he said he would. It did not. And then I started asking for help, because when I get home from work, my pillow is five feet from the piano … I’m not glad that he came to court, but I really wanted to solve it in a civilized way.
