Five people were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking in the territory of Serbia and Belgium as a criminal group, the Interior Ministry announced today.
After several months of international investigation, the police, in coordination with the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office and the Novi Sad Superior Prosecutor’s Office, arrested MR (36), MI (39), RM (34), VV (57) and IJ (40) of the area. Žablja, for the existence of reasons to suspect that they committed the crime of trafficking in persons.
They are accused that, as members of a criminal group whose suspect is the organizer M. R, from February to the second half of October 2019, they took three Serbian citizens, deceiving that they would do a well-paid job as a painter in Belgium . to this country where they were forced to steal.
The victims are suspected of being forced to steal several tons of copper and other metals daily from factories in the city of Charlois, which they later sold as waste.
In this way, it is suspected that the members of the criminal group illegally obtained amounts of between 1,000 and 1,500 euros a day, which they used to buy real estate, cars and other personal needs.
During the search of the apartments where the suspects are staying, the police found around 5,000 euros, two pistols with ammunition, a larger quantity of gold jewelery and several mobile phones.
The suspects were detained for up to 48 hours and will be taken to the Novi Sad High Prosecutor’s Office, along with a criminal report.
