During the previous days, customs officials, in cooperation with the police, prevented the smuggling of more than 800 tablets of psychotropic drugs hidden in the luggage of passengers at the Horgos border crossing, the Customs Administration announced.

“The last case of this type was registered at the exit of that crossing on the afternoon of September 2, when a bus with Serbian plates arrived at the control line, carrying passengers on the regular Valjevo – Traun line (Austria). Neither passengers nor drivers reported that they are carrying something that is subject to customs control, customs officials, in cooperation with the police, conducted a detailed examination that revealed 114 psychoactive tablets in the luggage of the 45-year-old passenger from Valjevo, ”it reads in the notice.

“Just four days earlier, on August 29, three more cases were prevented at the same crossing and nearly 700 tablets of various sedatives were seized,” the statement read.

The most notable case was the attempt by a 60-year-old man from Šabac, who traveled by bus from Serbia to Austria, to smuggle up to 600 tablets of a 1.5 mg drug in his luggage. The medications were packed in this passenger’s suitcase, without him having medical documentation for them. Two more passengers with identical intentions were discovered on the same bus.

As they are drugs containing psychoactive substances, they were permanently seized immediately after their discovery, while the police initiated criminal proceedings against the aforementioned passengers.
