Biljana Đorić from Mataruška Banja disappeared this day in 2015 in Kraljevo, when she was 19 years old.
Mother Vesna has been looking for her for five years and visits the monasteries, because she believes that her daughter is in one, considering that they received no response in the church.
– We received the latest information two years ago that it was seen in Greece. Work in a boutique. We reported it to the police, the police checked it, and then my husband and I went to Greece. It turned out that it was a girl from Mataruška Banja, who looked like my Bilja, even I know that girl personally. The man reported it with the best of intentions. There were also several scammers, who was seen in Bosnia, then in Valjevo. We verify all that information. They even told us it was in Zajecar. The godfather found that guy, took him to the police station. It turned out he just wanted to take the money, says Vesna.
A yellow Interpol warrant has been issued for Biljana. A monetary reward was also offered for the information, which should be updated, but nothing. Thursday has become a day to shudder.
Since that Thursday, December 2, 2015, there has been no trace or voice of her. Instead of returning home from Kosovska Mitrovica, where he studied, on Friday, he disappeared the day before.
– Absolutely nothing indicated to me that she could do that, because she is not a problem child. We never had a problem with her. That December 2 he had a discussion. We listened to each other when he finished around 2pm. He said he did a great job, he has another one the next day and he has to study. We agreed to talk to her later to study; Vesna remembers that December 2, five years ago, and adds:
– The same day he got on the train and arrived in Kraljevo. In Kraljevo, he left his mobile phone and passport at the store. She didn’t have an ID card. He had lost it, so he gave it up for a new one. He left everything at the kiosk and said someone would come pick it up. I called. She did not answer. It never happened that he did not respond. At one point I texted him if he doesn’t call me I’ll notify the police. And when I turned around after 2.3 minutes, a girl called me and said, “You know what? This phone got stuck in traffic.” I asked what the traffic was, told them not to touch anything and that we would come. First we went to the police station, then to the traffic police to see if it was her. However, it was also seen on the cameras that it was her and that she left her passport, and since then there has been no trace or voice.
As parents, Vesna and her husband immediately thought the worst. They searched the forests, they brought divers, they searched the Ibar river, the kayakers went downstream and upstream for months.
– However, the inspector completely ruled out that possibility. We are told that the water must expel the body, it hardly speaks:
– The police suspect that he is somewhere in the monastery. On one occasion, when we went to the police, the inspector asked me if it occurred to him that she was somewhere in the monastery. It really isn’t. Then I went to the monasteries to look for her. I did not know their rules, and the rule is that if you go to the monastery as a novice and you say that you do not want it to be known that you have been in the monastery for a year, two, five, 10, there is no possibility that they will say so. I went like this from monastery to monastery and all the abbesses said the same thing to me. One even told me that if he were with me, he wouldn’t tell you. Then I went to Belgrade, to the Patriarchate. They say that if it was their wish not to know, you cannot find out.
Vesna says that there is a possibility that her daughter is in the monastery.
– Keep her alive. I’m not ruling out any possibility, but I would like it to be there. The police still tell me they will find the body. The only place we cannot penetrate is the church. I also addressed the Citizen Protector. And he received the answer that the church is a state unto itself. Even if he said in his anger that he did not want it to be known that he had been in the monastery for 5 or 10 years, and that he changed his mind after a week, they would not have allowed it, because that would violate the canon.
– I prayed in the Patriarchate, just tell me yes or no, if it is in a monastery, you don’t have to tell me which monastery it is or which diocese it is, just to know that my son is alive. If not, tell me. I went to monasteries in both Bosnia and Montenegro. There is no convent I did not go to. There is not. Even the inspector went to an abbess. And she told him she was with me, I couldn’t say that and even if you wanted to search the monastery, you wouldn’t find her. I would hide it. That was strange to me.
Going back days before Biljana’s disappearance, Vesna also found phrases at her daughter’s bedside that could indicate that she was thinking about the church, even though they had never visited it so often. He also mentioned the Bible.
– We go to church during the holidays and when we are famous, but we are not crazy. It was strange for me when Đurđić quoted the Bible for our glory. Since the candle was lit, he told me to turn off the television and the cigarette, it is a sin to burn while the candle is lit. I wonder where he got that from, he told me he was reading. Once we went to Kosovska Mitrovica, we did not find her in the room. He says he was with his friends at church, which he never did on weekdays. And she told me it was a beautiful church. And since he was supposed to come home on Friday, he bought a toy for his brother, and since he did not know what to do with his sisters, he told me: “I will bring you the rosaries” – Vesna recalls.
When asked if she thinks she is alive, she says her feelings are mixed and that as a mother she cannot accept that she is not alive.
– I can not. And believe me, it would be easier for me, I don’t know if you understand me, to find her dead than to go through this agony. I can’t accept that she’s dead. She is alive for me, I will not give up until the last atom of strength, I will fight, I will go where I hear. The worst part is that I am not getting any information at the moment. The police told me that they had done their part of the work, that they had banged their heads against the wall, and that they had nothing else to do.
– I don’t want this for anyone. I live on medication. I have three more children, two daughters and a son. She is older. She had a boyfriend, but she broke off the relationship 4 months before disappearing. The boy was questioned, he was subjected to a polygraph twice. He knows nothing. But I’m sure someone must know something. She couldn’t fall to the ground alone. Someone has to know something. It would be enough for someone to tell me anonymously if she is alive or not: “I’m alive, don’t look for me, I don’t want to see or hear you.”
Vesna says there were no fights in the family. She never had a problem at school. Nowhere does she find the answer to what could make her do this.
– How do I live? But this is not life. Survival. I have to do it for the other kids. I take a handful of tranquilizers and move on. I ended up in the hospital a couple of times, in the ER, especially when it’s holidays, birthdays, November 19 was his birthday. I take a tranquilizer so I can do it for the other children. A couple of times I wanted to raise my hand, so I spoke to the psychiatrists. I have to have the strength to find it, and God willing – says this mother.
All children remember her. Little Bogdan, who is now 9 years old, and when he disappeared only four, especially.
– Bogdan is the one who talks about her the most. There is not a day that I don’t wonder when Bilja will return and where he went. I try not to cry in front of him, and when it happens, I say I have a headache – says Vesna.
