The remains of a Roman aqueduct found two months ago, covered and insured, await a better time for a more detailed investigation and protection.
This is the third water supply system discovered on the grounds of the ancient Naissus of Constantine, that is, the current Nis.
– This address is new for now and we have determined that it is one of the main water supply lines in Roman Nis, i.e. Naisus – says Aleksandar Aleksić from the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Niš.
– This is nothing unusual, we live in a city that has so much history and so much heritage and it is not unusual to find archaeological remains from the 3rd, 4th or 5th century, that is, the time of the city of Nis of Constantine when it is in its history. 2,000-year-old had the greatest prosperity.
The archaeological excavations lasted two months and now everything is being buried. – And it’s not sad, because we know what would happen if we didn’t bury it immediately after the find and especially at this time of year. We must preventively protect these archaeological finds from the influence of climatic conditions.
This phenomenal historical discovery was made during the excavation of the foundation for the construction of a two-story building on Pantelejski Boulevard on the outskirts of Nis.
