BELGRADE – Three representative education unions in Serbia, the Union of Education Workers, the Union of Education and the Union of Education Workers Nezavisnost, today called for the cessation of direct teaching in schools.
In a letter sent to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education and the Crisis Staff, they explained this request by saying that their field data on the number of infected students and teachers differs from that presented by Prime Minister Ana Brnabić two days ago.
They claim that according to their sources, the number of sick students is many times higher, with the fact that, as they say, not all students who have characteristic symptoms are evaluated, but sent to isolation, so that number is not included in official reports.
“According to our field data, the number of infected teachers is very high,” states the letter from the three union headquarters, which adds that if on average each school has up to three infected, and there are 1,750 schools, then the number of infected is about 5,000.
