If the cars also pollute the air due to repairs, they will not pass the technical inspection and must have catalytic converters and DPF filters.
During the technical inspection of vehicles with diesel engines, the content of soot in the exhaust gases will be checked, while in gasoline engines, attention will be paid to the content of carbon monoxide. If the vehicle has faulty catalytic converters and DPF filters, it cannot be registered.
According to the Rulebook on the Division of Motor Vehicles and Trailers and Technical Correctness, more stringent rules will apply to all vehicles registered in Serbia for the first time after 1 March 2014, compared to those registered before this date.
Therefore, gasoline engines, first registered to this date, must have less than 4.5 percent carbon monoxide, at idle. Vehicles registered for the first time after March 1, 2014 must have less than 3.5 percent carbon monoxide.
Up to 150,000 used cars are imported into Serbia every year. There are no precise data, but approximately 2,300,000 vehicles are registered annually, and their average age is around 15-16 years.
