The participants in the bloody confrontation were looking for truffles, and the conflict probably occurred because they are very expensive mushrooms.

The experienced inventors of this precious mushroom assure that the peak of the season is in November, when the most expensive truffle is sought, whose price per kilogram reaches several hundred euros.

The tragedy allegedly occurred when brothers DE (38) and NE (36) were attacked by two Jelicic brothers with axes while they were in a nearby forest. They reportedly drew their weapons in self-defense and shot them. The two apparently did not have a firearm permit.

By order of the Prosecutor’s Office, a “paraffin glove” was taken from two brothers to determine who shot with the weapon in illegal possession.

Where are the truffles?

Serbia is very rich in truffles, the most expensive mushrooms in the world, so many producers decide to do business selling fresh truffles, but also making products with them.

When truffles are mentioned, everyone knows the dizzying prices, black truffles sell for 30 to 120 euros and there are truffles in about 250 places in Serbia. However, the organized work of its collection or production remains a rarity in our country.

The regulation of control of the use and trade of wild flora and fauna covers three types of truffle in our country.

The collection and trade permit is issued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Two years ago, a hitherto unknown species was discovered in this area in the Zasavica Special Nature Reserve, not far from Sremska Mitrovica.

In the last three years, five types of truffles have been found in the reserve area, with the most expensive white truffle discovered in the coastal ash forests and oak ponds around Zasavica. The white truffle is on the list of endangered species in Western European countries, and its price is significantly higher than the black one.
