Representatives of the American Development Bank (Development Finance Corporation), DFC, will arrive in Belgrade in ten days, where, according to the Washington agreement, they will have their headquarters, more precisely a regional “hub,” and they will discuss with partners in Serbia. not official yet. announced, with the exception of the projects envisaged by the White House document.
President Aleksandar Vučić said today that he would like all these projects, including the establishment of the Belgrade-Pristina airline, to be realized as soon as possible, because, as he pointed out, connecting and opening up is something that is good for everyone in the region.
“The absolutely free flow of goods, capital and, above all, people and services is in the interest of everyone, especially Albanians,” said Vucic.
He said he was in talks with European partners about projects, stating that the first day of the Nis-Plocnik highway, that is, the Nis-Beloljin highway worth 255 million euros, of which 40 million euros would be a grant from the EU, for which he thanked.
“We are looking at everything else we will do, because they are important things for all the Balkans, which contribute to the change of consciousness,” he stressed.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic, for her part, specified that the value of the first phase of the infrastructure projects of the agreement is around four billion euros.
Remember that the White House discussed projects to connect rail traffic, more specifically rehabilitation, and in one part even a new line from Nis to Pristina.
“Whether it will pass through Merdar or go to Kraljevo – Raska, and then again to Pristina, we will see, depending on the situation on the ground and the technical documentation projects. It is an investment of about 980 million euros,” he said. Mihajlovic.
When it comes to roads, there is the “road of peace” Nis-Merdare-Pristina.
“Many were against that road, but that is a big mistake because all roads mean a lot to Serbia, and that is our opportunity to go out to the port of Albania. Work will continue on that road,” he said.
He says that at the end of October or beginning of November a public invitation is published for the first Nis-Plocnik stretch, 33 kilometers long, adding that financing has been provided for that part of the road, but not from Plocnik to Merdar and from Merdar to Pristina.
Mihajlovic also estimates that with the arrival of the Development Bank of America, which is part of his government, Serbia can hope to attract more US investment.
As for Richard Grenel’s initiatives on establishing rail and air traffic with Pristina, Mihajlovic believes that the documentation will be completed next year and that in the meantime he will work with the US agency to begin work.
“When it comes to air traffic, the matter is a bit more complicated. It is not debatable that some other companies are flying, but it is still not easy to allow Air Serbia to fly. In the next period, we want to make sure that our company can flying from Pristina airport. which doesn’t mean there was any reconnaissance, because it wasn’t, “concluded Mihajlović.
The International Development Finance Corporation of the USA is an American development bank.
The DFC, according to the institution’s website, is working with the private sector to fund solutions to the most critical challenges facing the developing world today.
